" ----almost thirteen".

On Saturday, August 14, 2004 my grandma and I visited with Uncle Sam and Susie.
They live near Greenfield in a valley, Happy Holler, on Rubicon Creek.

No dogs live in Happy Holler, but cats number 5:
Tabbee, Daisee, Judee, Bettee, and Spook (who is lazy)

Uncle Sam says the deer stop in to visit and lick out the bird food, or eat the tops
out of firebush, dogwood, and other tasty shrubs. Coons, groundhogs and possums
are numerous, but the mice just don't seem to enjoy the area.

Some Snapshots

We also saw some history of my grandpa John's family. On that side of
my family there are Williams, Henderson and Thorpe names.
These
families settled on the prairie near Greenfield about 1830. The Williams
came from the Virginia area to Kentucky then to Illinois. The Henderson
family came down from Ohio (a barge) to Cairo, then up the Mississippi
to Cahokia area, then to Greenfield. Martin Thorpe possibly came directly
from England. These families used family plots on their own land as the
burial site. Some years back the plot where these families were buried was
desecrated to such an extent that the few remaining markers had to be ex-
cavated. Many were not found, some being freed slaves who chose to stay
with "uncle Billy Williams"  --------- more on that later.

With help from 621, Joe and 622, Josh the markers remaining are stationed
along the same creek as before (Rubicon) but downstream about 2 miles.
